BPD investigates reported kidnapping

May 9, 2024

On May 7, 2024, Boise Police were notified about an incident on May 6, 2024, around 5:25 pm. The report was about a young girl who was playing outside of an apartment complex on the 500 block of S. Curtis Road when a black male adult asked her to get in his car so he could take her to her mom. The girl refused and the man put her in his car. He drove out of the parking lot before driving her back to the apartments and dropping her off. The girl's family reported it the next morning and Boise Police began an investigation. The victim was not physically hurt and she and her family are receiving services and support. The Boise Police Special Victim's Unit is continuing to investigate and follow up on leads.

Suspect description: The suspect is described as a black male adult, mostly bald with short black hair on the sides and the back of his head. He also had a mustache, wore sunglasses, and is described as having two large front teeth.

Vehicle description: The vehicle is described as a small black sedan or passenger car.

BPD also has two additional reports of child enticement in the same area.

  • On March 17, 2024, Boise Police responded to a call on the 5800 block of W. Kootenai Lane at a different apartment complex nearby where a suspect asked two children, a boy and a girl, to come help him with something. The children ran away and the suspect left. The suspect was described as possibly a middle eastern man as he had darker skin and dark hair. The suspect may have been associated with a white van that was also in the area.
  • On December 12, 2023, at the apartment complex on the 500 block of S. Curtis Road, a suspect in a vehicle rolled down his window and asked two girls to come sit in his car. The girls did not comply and the suspect left. The suspect is described as a black male in his 20'or 30's, clean shaven, wearing a dark colored baseball style cap and spoke in broken English and had an accent. The vehicle is described as a gray or dark gray older model sedan with tinted windows. This incident was reported to police on December 13, 2023. Boise Police did surveillance in the area during school bus drop off times, which is when the incident occurred, and could not locate a similar-looking vehicle or any other leads.

Since the report on May 7th, Boise Police have conducted several interviews, gathered video evidence from nearby, and are following up on other leads. BPD detectives encourage anyone with information about these incidents to call Ada County Dispatch at 208-377-6790. Anyone who sees any other similar suspicious behavior is urged to call 911.

BPD also offers the following safety tips for parents and children

  • Talk with children about who is a stranger (anyone your family doesn't know well) and who it is OK for them to talk to, go with etc.
  • Tell kids its ok to say no, run away, and go tell a trusted adult.
  • In public, teach kids safe places to go, especially around routes to school, etc.
  • Encourage children to stay with groups and walk to and from school or the bus stop with others.
