Traffic Advisory: Fort Weaver Road wastewater construction alert

HONOLULU - The City and County of Honolulu's Department of Environmental Services alerts the residents and commuters utilizing Fort Weaver Road this week of construction of a 30-inch wastewater pipe along this thoroughfare.

Starting immediately, a third-party contractor has been mobilized to address the needs of the wastewater infrastructure. As part of these efforts, a 12-inch bypass pipe will be installed, necessitating adjustments to traffic flow patterns. Specifically, one lane in each direction, between Parish Drive and Ewa Beach Road, will be occupied by construction staging and work activities, leaving one lane open in each direction.

Late last week, manhole sensors upstream of the pipe detected high flows prompting the decision to implement this construction project. These sensors detected abnormally high flows, signaling potential issues within the wastewater system. Subsequent inspections, conducted via closed-circuit TV, confirmed the presence of debris obstructing the flow within the pipe.

The duration of the bypass installation and associated construction activities is anticipated to span approximately one week, during which dedicated personnel will be stationed onsite to facilitate traffic management. ENV encourages all residents, commuters, and stakeholders to remain vigilant, exercise caution when navigating the affected area, and comply with all posted signage and instructions from construction personnel.

While ENV acknowledges the inconvenience this temporary disruption may cause, the work is essential to safeguarding the integrity and functionality of the wastewater infrastructure.
