Collins, Colleagues Introduce Bipartisan Resolution Designating May 21st as “National Kids to Parks Day”

Washington, D.C.- U.S. Senator Susan Collins (R-ME) joined a bipartisan group of her colleagues in introducing a resolution that encourages children to get outdoors and promotes healthy outdoor recreation by designating today, May 21, 2022, as "National Kids to Parks Day."

"National Parks offer countless opportunities for children to engage in recreational and educational activities and cultivate a lifelong love of the outdoors," said Senator Collins. "Our bipartisan resolution would recognize the important role parks like Acadia have in encouraging children to play outside and stay healthy. I encourage every family to take the time to visit and experience all that our National Parks have to offer."

First celebrated by the National Park Trust, the 12^th annual Kids to Parks Day marks the beginning of a summer-long series of events at state parks nationwide that promote outdoor recreation and active, healthy living.

In addition to Senator Collins, the legislation was introduced by Senators Ron Wyden (D-OR) Rob Portman (R-OH), Cory Booker (D-NJ), Martin Heinrich (D-NM), Patty Murray (D-WA), Mazie Hirono (D-HI), and Richard Bur (R-NC).

Earlier this month, the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee advanced the Outdoors for All Act, bipartisan legislation introduced by Senators Collins (R-ME), Alex Padilla (D-CA), and John Hickenlooper (D-CO). The bill would expand access to parks and outdoor recreation opportunities in urban, disadvantaged communities, helping to close the park equity divide.
