Youth Mental Health First Aid Virtual Training of Trainers Available

The Wisconsin Safe and Healthy Schools Center (WISH) is offering free training for successful applicants to become Youth Mental Health First Aid trainers. Youth Mental Health First Aid is an evidence-based training course designed to give members of the public key skills to identify and respond to signs of mental health concerns in youth, ages 12-18.

Two separate sessions are being offered. A maximum of 16 people may participate in each:

  • Session A: June 8, 9, 10, 2021

  • Session B: August 3, 4, 5, 2021

Participants must:

  • Apply to be accepted by April 30, 2021. All applicants will be notified the first week of May

  • Attend all days of training without exception (8:30 a.m. - 5 p.m. CST)

  • Review all instructor commitments in the application prior to registering for training

Upon completion of the training, participants will be certified to train in-person, blended, and virtual formats of Youth Mental Health First Aid, with a minimum of three trainings per year to remain current.

The Wisconsin Center for Resilient Schools (WCRS), another part of the Wisconsin Safe and Healthy Schools Center, also continues to offer resources for school teams and leaders seeking to initiate or sustain meaningful change efforts toward comprehensive school-based mental health and trauma-informed social and emotional learning. The team of experienced and energetic coaches continues to partner with schools and districts to provide coaching strategies to facilitate goals.

WCRS coaching can help your district or school teams to:

  • Strengthen and align systems that support comprehensive school-based mental health and trauma-sensitive SEL in order to promote academic success for each student

  • Engage with data, resources, and tools to create a sustainable plan to reach desired outcomes

  • Develop strategies for stakeholder engagement

  • Explicitly position and communicate about trauma-sensitive SEL as a lever for equity

How do schools and districts engage with WCRS?

  • Coaching through the WCRS is free and available to public, private, and non-public charter schools and districts throughout the state of Wisconsin
