Upcoming audit report on the fraud risks affecting the Common Agricultural Policy

On Monday 4 July, the European Court of Auditors (ECA) will publish a special report on the fraud risks affecting the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP), the single largest component of expenditure under the EU budget.

The auditors examined patterns of fraud in CAP payment schemes, analysing measures financed by the CAP under shared management (direct payments, market measures and rural development), examining data from the 2007-2013 and 2014-2020 programme periods. They have also assessed how the European Commission responds to fraud in agricultural spending.

The ECA selects and designs these audit tasks to be of maximum impact by considering the risks to performance or compliance, the level of income or spending involved, forthcoming developments and political and public interest.
