WASHINGTON - Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today applauded Trump's decision to fire Skip Thompson, Chair of the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA), over the TVA's outsourcing of jobs during the ongoing pandemic. He also agreed with Trump's criticism of the TVA CEO's $8 million per year salary, which Congressman Cohen has denounced for years.
Citing the TVA's plan to outsource 108 Information Technology (I.T.) jobs to private contractors, Congressman Cohen sent a letter in May to House Leadership calling for a ban on the outsourcing of federal jobs during national emergencies. Additionally, Congressman Cohen has long criticized the salary of the TVA CEO, who is the highest-paid federal employee in the country.
Congressman Cohen made the following statement:
'The TVA is a public trust, and its mission is to improve the quality of life in the Tennessee Valley. For far too long, it has failed to fulfill this purpose. I have rarely agreed with any of Trump's decisions, and he's rather late with this one, but it is incomprehensible that the TVA would outsource jobs in the middle of a global pandemic, and I support Trump's firing of the TVA chair. I also share his criticisms of the TVA CEO's outrageous and exorbitant $8 million per year salary.'
