'Al bij de eerste design-schets moet je nadenken over circulariteit'

Making a sustainable product starts with design. "You can use sustainable or recycled materials, but also design a product in such a way that the parts are easy to reuse or that you don't need a new product at all."

Together with her team, Design Strategist Aylin Groenewoud is working every day to make Philips' products and services even greener. Of all sales, 70 percent are green products and services, 15 percent are even fully circular.

"Our task within Philips is to make the transition from linear to circular design," says Aylin. We provide training, think up new design methods, but also, for example, together with hospitals, think about how we can design products so that they can be reused after use."

Aylin notices that sustainability is higher on the agenda than ever, also in the healthcare sector: "Awareness was already growing in recent years. COVID has only reinforced that; hospitals have started to think more about how they can work more efficiently. And that includes, for example, making sure that an MRI system can last longer and that you are smarter about purchasing products."
