Šmartno pri Litiji introduces advanced smart city services

On Wednesday, 6 July, Rajko Meserko, the Mayor of the Šmartno pri Litiji municipality, and Primož Kučič, Sales Director B2B at Telekom Slovenije, signed an agreement at Castle Bogenšperk on establishing two central communication stations in the Šmartno pri Litiji municipality. The central communication device is a Telekom Slovenije solution for smart cities; a smart street light that not only provides smart public lighting, but also makes it possible to monitor and analyse various factors that support better resource planning and management, while also providing some public services, such as electric vehicle charging, an overview of available parking spaces and similar.

The advancement of technology allows municipalities to introduce increasingly advanced and sustainable solutions that simplify the lives of their citizens and improve their quality of living. Such solutions support optimisation of resource utilisation, make it easier to plan how cities and local communities develop, and the advanced documentation system optimises work processes.

Šmartno pri Litiji will establish two central communication stations that will provide more efficient public service management, improve safety and support electric vehicle charging, while also acting as information points and providing various types of useful information. This will also allow citizens to provide feedback to the municipality by responding to questions, or vote for projects that the municipality has proposed as part of its participative budget. Access to municipal information and the option to vote on municipal projects will also be available through the Modro mesto (Clever City) mobile app.

According to plans, the central communication stations will be installed in September of this year at the parking lot in front of the sports hall and elementary school in Šmartno, and on the parking lot in front of Castle Bogenšperk.

"We are focused on how satisfied our citizens are with municipal services. Due to limited budget funds we are constantly searching for the most efficient solutions, and introduce them as we digitalise our operations. One already completed project was the documentation system for paperless operations, and now we are introducing smart city solutions, which were designed to be upgradable in response to future needs. This allows us to implement the development plans of our municipality, with a strong focus on tourism and sustainable development," said Rajko Meserko, the Mayor of Šmartno pri Litiji.

"Smart city solutions are designed to be tailored to the needs of each local community. This allows municipalities to operate more efficiently, it makes it easier for them to achieve their goals and plan further activities. Our broad portfolio of end-to-end services and our professional know-how make us a reliable partner for local communities heading towards digitalisation," added Primož Kučič, Sales Director B2B at Telekom Slovenije.

Effective solution for the digitalisation of local communities
As part of its smart city solutions Telekom Slovenije and its partners developed the central communication station, built in a smart street lamp, which can provide various advanced services from a single location: monitoring parking space availability at a certain location, anonymous traffic counting, real-time public lighting adjustment, and electric vehicle charging. It also supports the integration of additional modules, such as monitoring air quality, temperature, humidity, etc.

Citizens can also obtain various information at the central communication station (e.g., they can check the weather forecast), read municipal notifications or respond to questionnaires, for example on their satisfaction with municipal development, they can report damage to public utility infrastructure or submit their proposals for change and improvement. The solution is connected to the unified platform for managing and monitoring factors for improving the quality of living, where each municipality can select the smart city services they need. Telekom Slovenije and partners ensure that the selected solutions are implemented and operational.
