The Government needs an active civil society

After a meeting with non-governmental organisations, Slovenian Prime Minister Robert Golob pointed out that today's meeting was the first step towards fruitful cooperation with civil society and emphasised that government structures actually need an active civil society, because non-governmental organisations work in the field and are in contact with people, which means that they not only are aware of the challenges and problems but can also address and resolve them quickly, avoiding long-lasting procedures.

In the coalition agreement, the coalition partners committed to devote special attention to permanent and inclusive dialogue with non-governmental organisations and their involvement in the designing of public policies. "Today, the first step was taken to start addressing concrete problems together," said Prime Minister Golob after the meeting, adding that some steps have already been taken through the work of the National Assembly and that the establishment of dialogue with civil society will lead to a life in a better society, one where people will be more inclusive and better connected.

The role of non-governmental organisations is invaluable in many areas, in particular in cases where people face difficulties in life because of unrealistic regulations. Officials at the ministries cannot resolve such problems in time, but together with civil society this will be possible, explained the Slovenian Prime Minister.

He added that during the meeting it was agreed that the Government and civil society would also try to act in an anticipatory manner in each area separately. A dialogue will be initiated before a law is submitted to the procedure; in this way better proposals for both laws and governmental decrees can be prepared.

The next meeting of the Government with non-governmental organisations will take place before the holidays and the partners will further cooperate via a separate platform and digital tools.
