Training on policy development in the United Arab Emirates kicks off online

How community-based safeguarding policies in the field of intangible cultural heritage can support sustainable development?
How can communities be assisted in safeguarding their intangible heritage through policymaking?
How community stewardship over that intangible heritage can be recognised and protected?

These are many other questions that will be tackled at the online training on policy development in the field of intangible cultural heritage in the United Arab Emirates which is held from 10 to 12 May 2022. The training is co-organized by the UNESCO Office in the Gulf States and Yemen and the Abu Dhabi Department of Culture and Tourism.

Facilitated by Dr Annie Tabet and Dr Ahmed Skounti, the training brings together participants from all over the United Arab Emirates, who will have an opportunity to get to know the UNESCO methodology in designing policies in the field of intangible cultural heritage, within the framework of the 2003 UNESCO Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage. The workshop will discuss the challenges and opportunities of developing policies and formulation of strategies in intangible cultural heritage, as well as community and civil society participation in policy development.
