IBAMA and ENGIE hold public consultations on the Usage Plan for the Adjoining Areas of the Cana Brava Hydroelectric Power Plant’s reservoir

Conserving the existing ecosystems and regulating the proper use of the reservoir's water and banks requires previous usage planning. To this end, environmental authority IBAMA (Brazilian Institute for the Environment and Renewable Natural Resources) and ENGIE Brasil Energia will hold, on October 27, 2021, at 7 p.m., a public consultation on the Conservation and Usage Plan for the Areas Adjoining the Artificial Reservoir ("PACUERA" in the Brazilian acronym) of the Cana Brava Hydroelectric Power Plant, located on the Tocantins river, in the state of Goiás, between the municipalities of Minaçu, Cavalcante and Colinas do Sul.

The event will be held in virtual format because of the public health circumstances arising from the Covid-19 pandemic. The purpose of the public consultation is to identify the beast alternative uses for the reservoir and its adjoining areas, from activities associated with the local economy to leisure applications.

The PACUERA document contains rules on the use of the plant's reservoir and its permanent preservation area ("APP"). At the Cana Brava HPP, the existing version of the document was drafted with the involvement of the community and local leaderships of the areas surrounding the reservoir, by means of technical meetings with presentations of the proposed review, identification of wishes ad expectations, and the proposition of alternatives analyzed in the light of the applicable environmental laws.

To enable the population to become acquainted with the preliminary document up for discussion ENGIE Brasil Energia made available printed copies of it at the City Halls, City Councils and Prosecutor's Offices of the affected Municipalities. Additional information will be provided by means of informational materials such as folders, billboards and radio announcements. IBAMA was in charge of publication of the Invitation to Attend the Virtual Public Consultation (CPV) on the Federative Union's Official Print, in line with specific recommendations.

The public consultation session is open to all residents so that they many watch and actively participate in the discussions. It can be accessed at www.uhecanabrava.com.br/pacuera. The session will also be broadcast on Youtube, on this link, on the Serra da Mesa radio station and the Clube FM de Minaçu community radio station.

The PACUERA public consultation is a requirement for the Federal environmental licensing process conducted by IBAMA, and abides by the authority's guidelines, prioritizing environmental conservation and collective interests.
