100 Block of Gay Street Goes Car-Free for May First Friday

Gay Street between Jackson and Vine avenues will be open to pedestrians only on Friday, May 3, 2024, between 3 p.m. and 10 p.m. for a First Friday celebration hosted by Arts and Culture Alliance.

Headquartered in The Emporium at 100 S. Gay Street, the Arts and Culture Alliance has hosted First Friday events in downtown Knoxville for 20 years.

This inaugural block party begins at 5 p.m. and includes live music and nearly 30 local artists, as well as five new exhibitions inside The Emporium. Festivities end at dark.


On street parking spots in the 100 Block will be unavailable starting at 3 p.m.

Free parking is available after 6 p.m. and all day on weekends in City-owned garages and surface lots.
