The Indiana State University theater department will present the world premiere of a full-length comedy written by senior J. Myles Hesse Feb. 28-March 3.
Directed by theater Professor Arthur Feinsod, who has also been intimately involved in its development, 'The Lily and the Mantis' evokes laughter from the crimes and corruption of the impeccably dressed Mantis family, the first family of fictitious Daley, Ind. The plot follows a power struggle in the family, a dead maid is in the rose garden, corruption and family secrets spill out in the parlor, hilarity ensuing.
'It is very unusual for an undergraduate playwright to receive a fully produced production, but Myles' work speaks for itself,' Feinsod said. 'This play is of such high quality that the theater faculty felt confident in presenting it as part of the regular departmental season this semester.'
'The Lily and the Mantis' will be presented at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 28-March 2 and 4 p.m. March 3 in the New Theater on the Indiana State campus.
Tickets may be purchased at the New Theater Box Office or by calling 812-237-3333 the week of the show. Free student rush tickets are available at the box office at 6:30 p.m. for the evening performances and at 2:30 p.m. for the matinee.
