Ooredoo Encourages Internet Users to Be Mindful When Providing and Sharing Information Online as Part of Ramadan Campaign

Continuing its Ramadan campaign to enhance peoples' digital lives, Ooredoo is reminding internet users to be mindful when providing, sharing and trusting information. Through a fraud awareness campaign on social media focused on Phishing, a cybercrime that involves soliciting personal information over the phone or by SMS, the telecoms company is helping users to protect themselves from identity or financial theft, while being cautious about where their sources of information come from, and what they choose to share with others.

Raed Mohammed Dawood, Director of Branding, Communications and Corporate Affairs at Ooredoo, said, 'There is so much information floating around on the internet, and it is important for us to not only be diligent about what we accept as fact, but to be aware of the credibility of what we are sharing. At the same time, we need to be protective of our own personal information, which is at risk from cybercrime. Of course, the benefits of the internet far outweigh the risks, and at Ooredoo it is our mission to help users be aware of the latter and continue to enjoy it.'

Maximising its efforts, Ooredoo is reminding people to be wary of unsolicited or unknown phone calls or SMS messages that may ask for personal or banking information, and never to share details such as their bank card PIN number or mobile banking password, never to transfer money to another account on their request, and don't assume they are genuine because they have some of their personal information; which is easily obtained it from social media or other sources. Meanwhile, the company is encouraging people to fact-check information, verify with other sources, and avoid spreading false information.
