OECD to launch report on tackling social and economic costs of mental ill-health - Tuesday 8 June 2021

02/06/2021 - Mental ill-health affects millions of people and takes a huge toll on societies and economies around the world. The COVID-19 crisis has also led to a sharp worsening of people's mental health, especially among the young, unemployed and those facing financial insecurity. Yet mental health care has long been neglected and under-funded, and unmet need for care is still high in OECD countries.

A new OECD report to be published on Tuesday 8 June 2021at 11h00 CEST/Paris time provides a comparative assessment of recent reforms OECD countries have made to the policies and services that matter for mental health system performance.

A New Benchmark for Mental Health Systems: tackling the social and economic costs of mental ill-health also identifies a number of reform options to help countries better meet their populations' mental health needs.

Ministers and experts will discuss the report's findings at a High Level Virtual Policy Dialogue taking place the same day from between 14:00-16:00 CEST. This event is open to media: Register.

Requests for electronic advance copies of the publication, under embargo, should be sent by e-mail to [email protected]. Journalists requesting an electronic version in advance of the release time agree to respect OECD embargo conditions.
