west neighbourhood hosts next community recovery fund meeting

WEST neighbourhood, which covers Audenshaw, Denton and Droylsden, hosts the next Tameside Community Recovery Fund meeting.

It takes place at St George's Church, Windmill Lane, Denton, (noon to 4pm) on Saturday (May 21) and everyone is welcome to attend and have their say on which groups should receive grants.

At the first event, which was on May 7 and dealt with the North neighbourhood which covers Ashton, almost £15,000 was distributed among eight organisations to fund community events, healthy eating campaigns and gardening.

Each group competing for a grant has to have applied under one of four headings: Clean and Attractive, which means looking after an area's appearance; Health and Wellbeing; Safer Neighbourhoods and Staying Connected - helping people get together to reduce loneliness and isolation.

They are given five minutes to make a presentation, another five to take questions, and when all the groups have finished, a vote is taken to decide who should receive money. Every group was successful at the North neighbourhood meeting as the one that failed to receive a grant was shown how to apply for external funding.

Cllr Janet Cooper, the Civic Mayor of Tameside, will be attending with her Consort, Mr Dennis Fitzpatrick.

The remaining two events (open to everyone) are:

Saturday, June 11

East (Dukinfield, Mossley and Stalybridge): The Together Centre, Birch Lane, Dukinfield, (2 to 5pm).

Saturday, June 18

South (Hyde and Longdendale): The Meeting Point, St Barnabas's Church, Hattersley, (noon to 4pm).

Terry Finn, from Tameside Council's community safety team, said: "We have many community groups in the borough which have struggled to raise funds over the last two years because of the pandemic.

"The Tameside Community Recovery Fund offers them a fun way to engage with residents as they set out their case to get some money to support their activities and give their work a much-needed financial boost."
