Service Announcement New Zealand | Coronavirus COVID-19 Update

We would like to keep you informed about the effects of the coronavirus on the New Zealand market through this site. Mainfreight keeps a close eye on developments. We take measures to protect our team and customers, but we also try to keep our services as normal as possible.

As of 11.59, Wednesday 17 August New Zealand will move into COVID-19 Alert Level 4, we need to remain to be vigilant to ensure we keep moving in the right direction. At Mainfreight, we will continue to follow the advice of the local authorities.

Market Updates New Zealand

Our first priority is keeping our team safe and doing all we can to keep products moving. Although the challenges throughout our markets are present, all of our branches globally remain operational and here to assist. We will release market updates as new information becomes available. The most recent news on each service can be found below.

New Zealand Update | 8 September 2021

As advised by the New Zealand Government on Monday 6th September, all regions outside Auckland have moved from COVID-19 Alert Level 3 to Alert Level 2 at 11.59pm yesterday. Auckland remains at Alert Level 4, and this will be reassessed by Cabinet together with the rest of the country's settings early next week.

It was also announced that all essential workers permitted to enter or exit the Auckland borders will be required to have evidence of a COVID-19 test no more than seven days before their journey began. This takes effect from 11.59pm on Thursday 16th September 2021.

Operating a supply chain across different level settings introduces unique challenges. In line with our past communications, we remind customers who are sending into or out of Auckland that transit times will continue to be impacted.

Alert Level 3 and 4 settings create a freight backlog within our network because of business closures. As these settings drop, it takes time to clear that backlog and rebalance, especially as the Auckland market moves down Alert Levels in coming weeks.

Again, helping us with concise delivery contact details (name, mobile number) will greatly assist.

Disruption to inter-island ferry services continues, with mechanical and infrastructure issues arising. We may find ourselves heading into peak season with limited sailings while ships remain out of service.

Where possible, increasing levels of stock at destination will assist to mitigate COVID-19 and inter-island supply line capacity restrictions that may evolve. Mainfreight continues to provide full domestic and international services with added warehouse capacity around the country to assist customers with stock-holding requirements.

Finally, thank you to all our customers for your ongoing support as our team works to navigate the disruptions imposed by COVID-19. Further updates will be provided as we become aware of any changes to COVID-19 policy or infrastructure impediments.

We remain available in all local regions to assist or answer any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us.
