Weil Represents National Women’s Soccer League Players Association in Landmark Player Abuse Investigation

November 23, 2021

Weil is serving as pro bono counsel to the National Women's Soccer League Players Association in response to recent reports of emotional and sexual abuse of players by coaches in the country's top professional league.

Weil represented the Players Association to negotiate an agreement with the National Women's Soccer League to jointly investigate these allegations, an arrangement believed to be unique in professional sports. Weil is now conducting a broad investigation in partnership with the League's counsel into alleged instances of abuse, harassment, discrimination and other inappropriate conduct within the League and will seek to determine whether the League and its Clubs have adequately acted to ensure players' health and safety. The investigation will be overseen by a committee of representatives appointed by the Players Association, the League, and the Clubs.

The Weil team consists of Complex Commercial Litigation practice Co-Head Drew Tulumello, and Litigation partner Sarah Coyne and associate Arianna Scavetti.
