SAN ANTONIO, Texas -On July 11, 2022 at 5 PM CT, Democratic gubernatorial candidate Beto O'Rourke, YouTube's Eugene Lee Yang, and the Texas Democratic Party will be hosting "This is Texas," a lively fundraiser in San Antonio. Sponsored in part by Howdy Kuya and Bakery Lorraine, the event will take place at Freight Gallery and 1906 Gallery in San Antonio's Southtown Arts District, and will bring together Texan actors, comedians, elected officials, and grassroots activists, and feature local art, cuisine, and live music. During the event, Yang will interview O'Rourke about the issues facing working Texans and how O'Rourke plans to confront these challenges once elected governor. Yang and O'Rourke will also give attendees the opportunity to ask questions during the Q&A.

Throughout "This is Texas," Yang and his production company 2nd Try will be collecting audience and direct-to-camera footage for an upcoming documentary, directed by Yang, titled This Is Texas. The documentary aims to showcase the strength of the Democratic resistance in Texas, the issues facing working Texans, and the need for new political leadership in the state. The documentary will be released on September 7th on the Try Guys YouTube channel(8M subscribers).

All of the donations received during the event will go to the Texas Democratic Party to support the organizing efforts of Democratic candidates up and down the ballot, in addition to voter registration and GOTV efforts. The event and the video are being produced by Collective Impact, alongside Eugene Lee Yang.

Guests can purchase General Admission tickets here, and VIP tickets here.

Participants include:

Eugene Lee Yang, Beto O'Rourke, Lou Diamond Phillips, Mayor Ron Nirenberg, Democratic Nominee for Congress Greg Casar, Bakery Lorraine, Queer Eye's Angel Joy Flores, and other special guests.

Comedian and producer Eugene Lee Yang released the following statement:

"It's never been more clear that we need new leadership in Texas - I believe Beto O'Rourke is the answer. I'm so proud to be a Texan, but it's sickening to see Greg Abbott & Texas Republicans design laws that are meant to harm anyone who doesn't fit their idea of what Texas should be - whether it be low-income Texans, LGBTQ+ Texans, Texans with disabilities, Black Texans, Latino Texans, AAPI Texans, you name it. That's why on July 11th, I'll be in San Antonio trying to raise some money for Beto O'Rourke and the Texas Democratic Party so they can organize communities across the state, register as many voters as possible, and finally rid us of right-wing, extremist politicians. There will be local food, music, art, and most importantly, a chance for people to hear from Beto, who's running to represent Texans and OUR interests."

Texas Democratic Party Chairman Gilberto Hinojosa released the following statement:

"We're thrilled to have our ticket led by someone as dogged and determined as Beto O'Rourke - who spares no efforts to ensure we have the resources to fight back and win, not just for his race, but for races up and down the ballot. Beto knows how to mobilize and activate young voters - a crucial voting bloc to our success in November - through events like 'This is Texas.' We're looking forward to having Beto in San Antonio next month and are excited to see the resources this event will bring to our fight."
