Community Center Awarded Project of the Year

The Mickey Cafagna Community Center was named Project of the Year by the APWA San Diego County Chapter (Structures, $6-$25 million category) and we couldn't be more proud. June marks the one-year anniversary of the opening of the multi-generational center designed to serve our Poway community.

Building a new community center became a top priority for the Poway City Council in 2016, when it set aside $10 million of one-time use funds toward the project. The original community center was built prior to the city's incorporation in 1980 and needed extensive repairs to keep it safe and open to the public.

The City explored many options to design a building that meets the needs of the community and worked within the City's budget, without incurring additional debt. The Poway City Council selected a design concept in early 2018 and construction was completed in May 2021.
