You spin me right round! Cheadle care home resident’s wish comes true

A resident at a care home in Cheadle had the chance to relive happy times on a Ferris wheel in Liverpool.

Rick Fairclough, aged 69 and resident at Care UK's Abney Court, in Abney Hall Park, told his care team he wished to take a spin on a Ferris wheel once again, so they immediately set to work to make his wish come true.

Rick spoke fondly of the last time he was on a Ferris wheel on the London Eye in 1998 with his wife Gillian and their children, and the family enjoyed reaching new heights on their trip together.

Rick was delighted to be riding a Ferris wheel once more, with a wonderful view of the Liverpool docks when he reached the top.

The visit was part of the home's 'Wishing Tree' Initiative, which encourages residents to put wishes forward, allowing them to reconnect with a past hobby or try something completely new - from flying on a plane to enjoying a fish and chip supper, no wish is too big or small.

Rick said: "I thoroughly enjoyed the experience and it brought back good memories."

Rick talks affectionately of his memory of reaching the top of the big wheel with his wife and children, so when he made the wish to go up on a Ferris wheel again, we knew we had to make it happen.

"We're so pleased we were able to organise this nostalgic trip for Rick, he was over the moon to be going for a spin once more - and his smile said it all!"
