Vienna,2021-10-20 - In September 2021, the inflation ratewas 3.3%, as Statistics Austria reports (August 2021: 3.2%). Expenditures for transport (+9.4% compared to September 2020) proved to be the most important price driver, followed by expenditures for housing, water and energy (+3.9%).

"In September 2021, the inflation rate in Austria rose to 3.3%, its highest level since November 2011. In particular, low fuel and energy prices in the previous year continued to have a strong impact on inflation. Furthermore, there were price increases for catering services. The high rate of change compared to the previous month was mainly due to price increases for clothing, which were driven by the arrival of the winter collection", says Statistics Austria Director General Tobias Thomas.

The index level of the harmonised index of consumer prices(HICP 2015)was 112.22 in September 2021 (August 2021: 111.23 revised) with a harmonised inflation rate at 3.3%.
