During Selenga 2022 joint Russian-Mongolian exercise at Hovd training ground in the western Mongolian aimag of the same name, modern weapons and military equipment are actively used by units of the armies of the two countries.
The mountain-desert terrain training missions are carried out by motorised rifle units of Mongolian and Russian armed forces on BTR-82AM and BTR-80 armoured personnel carriers, crews of Pantsir-S surface-to-air missile systems, special forces units on the latest Typhoon and Lynx armoured vehicles, and personnel of control units on modern portable and mobile radio and satellite communication systems.
Also taking part in the exercise are Army aviation crews on Mi-8AMTSh multipurpose helicopters and Mi-24 attack helicopters, which carry out missions as part of a joint grouping of troops.
A total of more than 1,200 servicemen are taking part in the exercise, and some 300 pieces of military equipment are being used.
