Ellis advances to semifinals and secures medal at 2022 World Championships

Lightweight Rashida Ellis (Lynn, Mass.) continued her impressive run at the 2022 Elite Women's World Championships in Istanbul, Turkey with a 4-1 decision victory over Jaismine of India.

Ellis, who won bronze at the 2019 World Championships, did not let her opponent's height and reach advantage be used, as the American continued to get inside with the use of her jab and powerful combinations throughout the fight.

"I am feeling good," stated Ellis at the conclusion of her bout. "I had to cut her off, as she was running a lot, and I had to keep putting my pressure on her."

"She was outstanding," said USA Boxing Head Coach Billy Walsh on Ellis' performance. "Today was a very tall girl from India with experience behind her, I was very proud of the way she performed. We are going to get better as we are in the semifinal now. The talent in this competition has been outstanding and we are looking forward to going all the way for gold."

Ellis will have tomorrow off before taking to the ring on Wednesday for her semifinal matchup with 2020 Olympian, Dojeta Sadiku of Kosovo.

The American advanced to today's quarterfinals following a dominate unanimous decision victory yesterday against Krisandy Rioz of Venezuela. Two other American's, Jajaira Gonzalez (Glendora, Calif.) and Arika Skoog (Boston, Mass.) saw their World Championships run come to an end last night, leaving these championships with a top 16 finish.
