Mariposas festival to be held at Thrive Nature Park tomorrow

Lewisville Parks and Recreation Department will hold the City's annual butterfly festival, Mariposas, tomorrow, May 7, 10 a.m.-2 p.m., at Thrive Nature Park, 1951 S. Valley Parkway.

Mariposas is a family-friendly event featuring kids' activities, games, entertainment, and demonstrations in celebration of butterflies. Attendees will explore how the City is working to help the Monarch Butterfly along its yearly migration. They'll also have a chance to win exciting prizes.

Some events will take place inside Thrive, the City's multigenerational recreation center, across the street from the nature park. The Native Plant Society of Texas will present "Welcoming Pollinators to your Yard" at 10:30 a.m., and a children's storytime with monarch- and butterfly-themed books will start at 11:30 a.m. Both sessions will take place inside in the Dogwood 1 room.

Texas Master Naturalists will provide guided nature walks through Thrive Nature Park at 11 a.m., noon, and 1 p.m. Informational booths from the Native Plant Society of Texas and Texas Master Naturalists also will help educate attendees about pollinators.

Kids activities will include flowerpot painting, face painting, butterfly origami, sidewalk chalk, and sticky- note art.

The Mariposas festival supports the "Green Centerpiece" and "Extending the Green" Big Moves in the Lewisville 2025 vision plan. The full plan can be viewed online at cityoflewisville.com/lewisville2025.
