The City of Helsinki joined the international Dealroom database of startup ecosystems in autumn 2020. The purpose of the constantly updated database is to bring together startups, investors, incubators and accelerators, universities, universities of applied sciences and investment rounds in the Helsinki Metropolitan Area in a brand new way. The first year of Dealroom has been a success, as the number of participating startups already exceeded 2,000 in November 2021.

Dealroom helps startups grow

Data is power, and visibility in Dealroom can help startups and other actors to create the conditions for growth in many ways. Companies that do not yet have their data in Dealroom may choose to join the service, which is free of charge and freely accessible to all.

"Open, up-to-date and sufficiently comprehensive information about our vibrant startup ecosystem helps both local and international actors find opportunities in the Helsinki region. We are very pleased with the first year of Dealroom," says Tommo Koivusalo, Head of Unit at NewCo Helsinki.

The Dealroom database connects Helsinki to nearly 20 startup ecosystems across Europe. It also helps facilitate cooperation and comparison between ecosystems in different regions. The Dealroom service is produced locally by the Dutch startup Dealroom.co in cooperation with NewCo Helsinki.

Helsinki's startup activities rise stronger from pandemic

The startup ecosystem is of great importance to Helsinki, and the city is doing everything it can for the startups. The Dealroom network is an important part of the activities of the Helsinki Metropolitan Area startup ecosystem of the city and NewCo Helsinki.

Another important builder of the startup ecosystem is Slush Helsinki, which will once again draw the international startup community to Helsinki on 1-2 December. As one of the partners of Slush, the City of Helsinki contributes to the success of the event.

The Helsinki startup ecosystem already had a strong mindset for getting things done when recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic began, and it has risen from the pandemic even stronger than before. The latest startup services in Helsinki are Health Incubator Helsinki, Urban Tech Helsinki, Helsinki Education Hub and NewCo Accelerator, all of which have been received well by the startup field. Helsinki is also strengthening startup and other entrepreneurial activities on campuses in cooperation with the universities and universities of applied sciences in the Helsinki Metropolitan Area. In addition, Dealroom indicates that startups in the Helsinki Metropolitan Area have raised risk capital at a record pace this year.
