The Republican Senate Bill Could Raise Drug Costs and Isn't The Most Effective Method To Lower Costs
DES MOINES, IA - Today Senator Joni Ernst announced her support of a Senate bill that would supposedly lower prescription drug prices. The bill, which Senator Grassley admitted was designed to give Republicans 'political cover,' would not only fail to deliver promised cost reductions, but could actually lead to higher prices on prescription drugs.
'Senator Ernst has been promising for months that she wants to lower drug costs. Now, when given the ability to do so, she's supporting legislation that not only wouldn't lower costs but could increase them for millions of Iowans,' said Emily Holley, Executive Director of Iowa Voices. 'Senator Ernst should support the Lower Drug Costs Now Act and stop listening to her special interest donors who want to keep their profits sky high.'
If Senator Ernst was genuinely concerned about lowering the cost of prescription drugs, she would support the Lower Drug Costs Now Act, which gives Medicare the power to negotiate drug prices on behalf of Americans. The bill, which passed the House of Representatives with bipartisan support, would lower costs by up to 55 percent according to independent experts.
