Modern Healthcare names UCI Health physician among top diversity leaders

Modern Healthcare has named Dr. Charles Vega among top Diversity Leaders to Watch in 2021 in its annual review of the healthcare industry's diversity, equity and inclusion efforts.

Vega is a family medicine physician for UCI Health; associate dean, Office of Diversity and Inclusion, UCI School of Medicine and director of PRIME-LC, a five-year, dual-degree program at UCI designed to create leaders and physician-activists who will work in underserved Latino communities. He was cited by Modern Healthcare for the following:

• Developed a program to address health disparities affecting Latino communities.
• Created an academy to help people from underrepresented backgrounds join the UCI faculty after their training is complete.

According to Modern Healthcare, honorees on this year's list represent a cross section of the industry and have demonstrated a commitment to expanding and improving access to care, regardless of a patient's race, ethnicity, gender or sexual orientation. They've also served as mentors to advance diversity within the industry's leadership ranks.
