Indiana Receives Grant to Expand Indiana Veterans Memorial Cemetery

WASHINGTON - The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) National Cemetery Administration (NCA) announced today that the Veterans Cemetery Grants Program (VCGP), which it oversees, has awarded a grant of up to $7,763,108 to the state of Indiana for the expansion of Indiana Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Madison.

"This cemetery opened in 1999 and expanded to add 624 columbarium niches in 2013," said Under Secretary for Memorial Affairs Matthew Quinn. "We are proud to continue to assist this cemetery in providing services to the Veteran and his or her spouse."

Indiana Veterans Memorial Cemetery currently serves more than 286,000 Veterans and their eligible family members living within 75 miles of the cemetery. The grant will fund 1800 pre-placed crypts, 600 columbarium niches, roadway and subsurface drainage improvements, entry feature improvements, an Avenue of Flags, Administration Building energy efficiency improvements, irrigation pump stations, irrigation mainline, automated irrigation system, landscaping, and supporting infrastructure on approximately 10 acres of land.

Since its inception in 1978, the VCGP has provided more than $959 million to establish, expand, improve, operate and maintain 121 cemeteries in which Veterans are currently interred. In fiscal year 2021, these cemeteries conducted more than 45,000 burials.
