Hull West and Hessle MP Emma Hardy visits Humberfield Reuse Shop

24th May 2022

Hull West and Hessle MP, Emma Hardy visited the reuse shop in Humberfield, run by Dove House Hospice in partnership with FCC Environment, Hull City Council, and East Riding of Yorkshire Council on Thursday 12th May to see the work the organisations do to move resources higher up the waste hierarchy, divert items from landfill, and raise money for the local community.

The shop opened in 2015 and has since redirected 1,400 tonnes away from final disposal via energy from waste - the equivalent of 31 lorry loads. The proceeds of the shop go towards Dove House Hospice and assists them in their mission to provide expert specialist care to adults in the local area living with life-limiting and terminal illnesses.

Cassie Hart, Contract Manager at FCC Environment, welcomed Ms Hardy and said: "It was an honour to welcome Ms Hardy to our Humberfield Reuse Shop, giving her the opportunity to witness first-hand how our reuse initiative allows us to divert items from landfill and make a positive contribution to the local community."

Emma Hardy MP said: "It's great to see projects like this one in Hull, that not only benefit the local community and the environment, but also provide much needed funds for a fantastic charity, Dove House Hospice. I'd thoroughly recommend heading down to the Humberfield Reuse Shop to support a local charity and seeing if you can grab a bargain in the process!"

If you are keen to see what kind of bargains you might find, while helping the environment and the local community, do visit the Humberfield Reuse Shop open everyday from 9am to 5pm at Humberfield Recycling Centre, Ferriby Road, Hessle, HU13 0JA. Please note there is no requirement for a residents pass to visit the shop - everyone is welcome.
