Attempted Murder in the Second Degree, Terroristic Threatening in the First Degree, etc.

On Monday, August 15, 2022, at approximately 1:36 p.m., officers responded to a Haiku residence regarding a terroristic type case.

Upon arrival, it was reported that a male, later identified as Shawn Medeiros (55) of Kula, shot numerous rounds at the residence before fleeing the area in a white BMW SUV. The preliminary investigation reveals the resident, a 55-year-old female, was not home at the time of the incident.

Officers located 17 .223 caliber shell casings on the ground at the residence, and an All-Points Bulletin was placed for Medeiros' arrest.

At approximately 5:37 p.m., the suspected vehicle was observed on Crater Road in Kula. Officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop which the operator refused to comply with, resulting in a vehicle pursuit from Crater Road through various side streets in Makawao town before ending at Medeiros' Kula residence.

Medeiros attempted to flee on foot towards the residence but was taken into police custody before he could enter the home.

As a result of the pursuit, two minor motor vehicle accidents occurred. One occurred on Maha Road in Makawao when Mederios struck another vehicle's front bumper, and the other at Medeiros' Kula residence when Medeiros abruptly stopped, causing an MPD patrol vehicle to strike his vehicle from the rear.

There were no injuries reported from the incident.
