Troutman Pepper’s National Consumer Financial Services Practice Expands with Addition of Partner Justin Balser
NEW YORK - Justin Balser, an experienced litigator and compliance attorney, has joined Troutman Pepper's nationally recognized Consumer Financial Services Practice Group as a partner. Balser joins from Akerman where he was managing partner of the firm's Denver office.
Balser works with financial institutions, mortgage lenders, loan servicers, and other credit related entities throughout the United States on consumer finance litigation and compliance matters. He previously served as legal counsel and advisor to senior management at Lehman Brothers' mortgage subsidiary, Aurora Loan Services LLC and its affiliated companies.
"Justin's existing client base and deep experience in the consumer financial services sector made him a natural fit for Troutman Pepper," said Partner John West, chair of the firm's Business Litigation Department. "We are delighted that he has agreed to join us while working on a primarily remote basis from Denver. He also is associated with our Orange County office as client needs arise on the West Coast."
Balser litigates federal and state consumer lending and servicing claims, loan repurchase, and mortgage fraud matters and works with state and federal regulatory agencies in investigating mortgage fraud and related issues. He also advises on operational compliance and regulatory issues and implementation of remediation strategies.
"Justin has a highly evolved practice and is widely respected for his work in the mortgage lending space on both the litigation and compliance side," said Partner Michael Lacy, who leads Troutman Pepper's Consumer Financial Services team. "We are excited to welcome Justin to Troutman Pepper and the firm's expanding CFS practice." In February, the team welcomed Partner Susan Flint, formerly of Wells Fargo, to its ranks.
