Capito Announces Federal Resources for West Virginia Disaster Relief

CHARLESTON, W.Va. - Today, U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.), a member of the Senate Homeland Security Appropriations Subcommittee, announced resources from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security's (DHS) Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to the West Virginia Division of Emergency Management. The award will be used to help cover costs of ongoing recovery projects following a major weather disaster in April 2018.

"Many communities across our state face flooding due to our mountainous terrain and proximity to large rivers. Because of this, funding like this is critical as neighborhoods and towns continue to band together and rebuild from weather disasters. I was proud to work with our federal partners at FEMA to secure these resources for West Virginia that will help with ongoing recovery efforts after the storms and flooding in April 2018," Senator Capito said.

Individual award details listed below:

  • $3,944,851.61 in FEMA funding to the West Virginia Division of Emergency Management (Charleston, W.Va.) - Funding, authorized under Section 324 of the Robert T. Stafford Act, will be used to extend disaster relief from severe storms, flooding, landslides, and mudslides in April 2018.
