Prime Minister Zdravko Krivokapić met today with the President of the Jewish Community in Montenegro, Ms. Nina Ofner Bokan.

PM Krivokapić expressed great respect for the Jewish culture and spirituality of the Jewish people, whose influence is of inestimable importance for the world community, but also for Montenegro and its people.

The Prime Minister proudly pointed out the fact that Montenegro is one of the few countries whose rulers and people have never shown intolerance or discrimination against the Jewish people, which happened in much more prosperous environments. PM Krivokapić expressed readiness and need to form the Joint Commission as soon as possible, so that all points of the Basic Agreement with the Jewish community would be fully implemented.

President of the Jewish Community in Montenegro Nina Ofner Bokan thanked the Prime Minister for the exceptional cooperation and expressed satisfaction that the status of Jews in Montenegro was never questioned by the Montenegrin people, even when the Community was not institutionally defined.

Respect for the Basic Agreement is extremely important for the Jewish community. In order to continue its full implementation, it is necessary to refresh the Joint Commission, so I hope that we will complete this procedure very soon. Our primary goal is the construction of a synagogue, which, as the Chief Rabbi of Montenegro Luciano Moše Prelević says, will be a house of prayer and learning, but also a spiritual and architectural decoration of Podgorica and Montenegro, said Ofner Bokan.
