UNIVERSITY PARK, Texas - FC Dallas continues its 2019 Lamar Hunt US Open Cup campaign on Wednesday against New Mexico United in the Round of 16. FCD is coming off a 4-0 drubbing of OKC Energy FC last week, and New Mexico United enters the matchup following an upset victory on the road against the Colorado Rapids in penalty kicks.
FCD is looking to make the quarterfinals of the Open Cup for the first time since 2016 as it welcomes New Mexico to Wescott Field on the SMU campus.
BRYAN REYNOLDS STARTS AGAIN
FC Dallas defender Bryan Reynolds gets the starting nod at right back Wednesday night in what will be his second consecutive start. Last week against OKC Energy FC, Reynolds was solid on the right side of the defense as the unit held together for a clean sheet. Reynolds said last week that it was a great opportunity for him to get his first career start, and he's just trying to improve in any way he can in an effort to help his team win matches. He'll get another opportunity to do just that against New Mexico United.
NO CHANGES IN THE BACK
This week's Starting XI will feature an identical back line to the one that came out against OKC Energy FC. Ryan Hollingshead, Bressan, Matt Hedges and Bryan Reynolds will anchor the back of the formation - a group that was very successful against a USL foe last week. The defense didn't allow many chances last week and minimized any threat within its own 16-yard box as well. That continuity will help moving forward into Wednesday's match against New Mexico United.
RICARDO PEPI GETS ANOTHER NOD
Following last week's debut in a FC Dallas jersey, Ricardo Pepi once again starts at the top of the formation against New Mexico United. Pepi was able to get an assist in his FCD debut against OKC Energy FC, playing a through ball to Michael Barrios, who cut inside and buried a shot into the back post. Pepi will look to produce for his team in similar ways this time around with an eye for the goal as well.
