Upcoming Traffic Restrictions for the Portersville Bridge Replacement Project in Muddy Creek Township, Butler County

Indiana, PA - The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) is announcing upcoming lane restrictions and ramp closures on Interstate 79 Northbound and Southbound in Muddy Creek Township, Butler County as crews continue work on the Portersville Bridge Project.

May 8, 2024, 8 PM to 6 AM there will be single lane restrictions on Route 488 (East Portersville Road) and single lane restrictions on the Northbound on and off ramps and the Southbound on and off ramps for roadway milling in preparation for paving. Traffic will be directed with flaggers.

May 9 and 10, 2024, 8 PM to 6 AM there will be single lane restrictions on Route 488 (East Portersville Road) for paving. Traffic will be directed with flaggers. All Interstate 79 ramps will be closed to Route 488 including the Northbound and Southbound on and off ramps.

One-lane traffic will be maintained on Route 488 through the project as part of the detour route. To detour, motorists travelling North on Interstate 79 should exit at Exit 99/Butler-New Castle and travel on Route 422 Westbound to Route 19 Southbound to Route 488 Eastbound. Interstate 79 Southbound to Route 488 motorists should take Exit 99/Butler-New Castle to Route 422 Westbound to Route 19 Southbound to Route 488 Eastbound. Route 488 traffic to Interstate 79 will travel Route 488 Eastbound to Route 19 Northbound to Route 422 Eastbound to Interstate 79. Detour Signs will be posted.Work is weather dependent.

J.F. Shea Construction, Inc. of Mt. Pleasant, PA, will be completing this $6.3 million bridge replacement project. The anticipated completion date is June 2024. The existing bridge will be replaced with a two-span, steel bridge.
