Subject to AS 38.05.850, the Northern Regional Land Office has received an application for the following:

APPLICANT: Bureau of Land Management (BLM)

PROJECT NAME: LAS 35018

GEOGRAPHIC LOCATION: Slate Creek near Coldfoot, Alaska

LEGAL DESCRIPTION: Sections 9, 10, 15, and 16, Township 28 North, Range 12 West, Fairbanks Meridian

REQUESTED ACTIVITY:
The BLM has submitted an application to conduct annual snowshoe hare (Lepus americanus) track and pellet count surveys ("track count" and "pellet count") and browse surveys indefinitely at seven survey locations within the Dalton Highway Corridor. The grids were established over the course of 15 years by the NPS as part of the Showshoe Hare Ecology Project, management of which is being transferred to the BLM. Six survey grids are on BLM land, one grid is in Gates of the Arctic National Park (NPS), and a portion of one grid is on land managed by the State of Alaska (see attached map). This permit would only be for the site located on state lands. Each grid site contains 48 to 80 plots that are delineated by two small stakes and marked with flagging. Sites are accessed on foot.

REQUESTED TERM: 5 years

DEADLINE FOR COMMENTS: May 21, 2024

The public is invited to comment on this activity.
