One of the points of the statement of Uzbekistan's Foreign Minister Vladimir Norov at the 77th Session of the United Nations General Assembly was the issues of combating climate change.

Vladimir Norov assured Uzbekistan's commitment to actively participate in the multilateral efforts to promote the issues of the green agenda and curb climate change processes.

It was stressed that Uzbekistan has taken on an additional obligation to reduce greenhouse gas emissions under the Paris Agreement and is implementing a comprehensive strategy for the transition to a green economy and the development of renewable energy.

Minister focused on the massive initiative "Yashil Makon" (Green Land) by the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev, which provides for the planting 1 billion trees and shrubs across the country over the next five years.

The Foreign Minister of Uzbekistan highlighted the desiccation of Aral Sea. In Uzbekistan systematic work is under way to mitigate the consequences of an environmental disaster, transforming the Aral Sea region from a zone of ecological and humanitarian crisis into a zone of environmental innovation and technology.
