Berne Man Arrested on Child Sex Abuse Charges

Town of Berne Man Arrested on Child Sex Abuse Charges

New York State Police Investigators based out of the Latham barracks have made an arrest of a Berne man they say sexually abused a minor during the summer months. Investigators state that Edward Lemerise, age 67, of the Town of Berne, was taken into custody at his home without incident on October 23rd, 2018. Lemerise was arraigned in the Town of Berne Court and sent to the Albany County Jail on $35,000 cash bail/bond. He was charged with Rape 3rd, 2 counts of Criminal Sex Act 3rd, felonies, as well as Sex Abuse 3rd degree, Forcible Touching, Endangering the Welfare of a Child, and Unlawfully Dealing with a Child 1st degree. Lemerise was released after posting bond and is scheduled to appear in the Town Court at a later date.
