Commonwealth v. Deandre Ali Dagner; 15 Years to Serve for Home Invasion Robbery, Double Shooting

Virginia Beach, Va. - Colin D. Stolle, Commonwealth's Attorney for the city of Virginia Beach, announced today that Deandre Ali Dagner, age 24, formerly of Virginia Beach, Virginia, pled guilty and was sentenced for charges of Malicious Wounding (2 counts), Robbery (2 counts), Burglary, Use of a Firearm (2 counts), and Possession of a Firearm by Convicted Felon. In accordance with a plea agreement, Circuit Court Judge Tanya Bullock sentenced Dagner to 122 years in prison with 107 suspended, leaving fifteen (15) years to serve.

Had this matter gone to trial, the Commonwealth's evidence would have proven that on May 6, 2020, the victim came home from work to his house in the Level Green area of Virginia Beach. Deandre Dagner wore a mask and forced the man into the house at gunpoint. Dagner continued to hold the man at gunpoint, robbing the man and his roommate. The roommate eventually grabbed a gun from his nightstand and fired at Dagner. Dagner returned fire and struck both victims, who suffered serious injuries but survived. Dagner was shot in the leg then took approximately $900 from the victims.

Dagner later arrived at Portsmouth Naval Hospital suffering from gunshot wounds. He had almost $900 in cash on him. He had surgery at Norfolk General Hospital and a bullet was removed from his leg. The Department of Forensic Science analyzed that bullet and determined it was fired from the victim's gun. Further, a shell casing found at the scene was found to have both Dagner and the victim's DNA on it.
