During August, Fort Worth Animal Care & Control is taking part in NBCUniversal's nationwide Clear the Shelters pet adoption event for an eighth consecutive year. Since its inception in 2015, the Clear the Shelters pet adoption campaign has resulted in more than 700,000 pets finding new homes, and it all began here in North Texas.

The City of Fort Worth will waive adoption fees throughout the duration of this event; all animals, all month long. There is strong support from several city officials who wish to see these animals find their way to loving forever homes.

"The summer months are notoriously the time when we have the most intakes," said Dr. Tim Morton, assistant director of Code Compliance, Fort Worth Animal Care & Control. "But this year has been a huge challenge for us with a higher than normal number of animals entering the shelter. We're confident our community will come out and support this great adoption event."

Clear The Shelters is an annual, nationwide pet adoption campaign that is spearheaded by NBCUniversal Local, a division of NBCUniversal. Every year, NBCUniversal Local's NBC and Telemundo owned stations, plus affiliated stations, partner with animal shelters and rescues in their communities to host Clear the Shelters events.

Adoptions will take place all month long, and everyone is encouraged to visit one of the four adoption locations:

  • North Animal Campus, 351 Hillshire Drive, 76052.
  • Chuck and Brenda Silcox Animal Care and Adoption Center, 4900 Martin St., 76119.
  • Hulen PetSmart Adoption Center, 4800 S.W. Loop 820, 76109.
  • Alliance PetSmart Adoption Center, 2901 Texas Sage Trail, 76177.

All animals available for adoption are spayed or neutered, microchipped and vaccinated. From Aug. 1-31, adoption fees are waived.

NBCUniversal Local's Clear the Shelters campaign was inspired by a 2014 North Texas pet adoption event hosted by NBC 5/KXAS and Telemundo 39/KXTX and dozens of area shelters that resulted in the most adopted pets in one day for North Texas. Since 2015, NBCUniversal Local's Clear the Shelters pet adoption campaign has resulted in more than 700,000 pets finding new homes.
