Maskol Succeeds Before Maryland Commission on Civil Rights in Tenant Discrimination Case
September 20, 2021
Cynthia L. Maskol (Partner-Baltimore, MD) proved to the Maryland Commission on Civil Rights that there was no probable cause supporting a housing discrimination complaint against the firm's real estate company client. A tenant of an apartment complex managed by the firm's client alleged that she had been denied an accommodation and was evicted because of her disability. Cynthia led a detailed investigation, resulting in a persuasive written position statement supported by legal argument and evidentiary presentation. The Commission issued a 16-page opinion based on Cynthia's argument, finding that there was no probable cause to support the tenant's complaint that the firm's real estate client denied her a reasonable accommodation or evicted her because of a disability.
