Drunk Driver Pleads Guilty for Injuring Pedestrians in Hit-and-Run on St. Patrick's Day Weekend

Acting Erie County District Attorney Michael J. Keane announces that 49-year-old Maggie A. Coyle of Buffalo pleaded guilty yesterday morning before Buffalo City Court Judge Rebecca L. Town to one count of Leaving the Scene of an Incident without Reporting Resulting in Personal Injury (Class "A" misdemeanor under New York State Vehicle & Traffic Law) and one count of Driving While Intoxicated (unclassified misdemeanor under New York State Vehicle and Traffic Law Vehicle & Traffic Law). She pleaded guilty to the highest sustainable charges.

On Saturday, March 16, 2024, at approximately 8:00 p.m., the defendant was driving while intoxicated on Cazenovia Street in the City of Buffalo when she hit two pedestrians while turning her vehicle onto Cumberland Avenue. The defendant drove away from the scene without reporting the incident to police. She was located a short time later by responding Buffalo Police officers.

A female victim was treated at the scene for minor injuries. The second victim, a 23-year-old male, was taken by ambulance to ECMC where he was treated for a head injury and released.

In addition to her license being suspended, Coyle was ordered to participate in an impaired driver's course and pay a total of $1,445.00 in fines and surcharges.
