Cortez Masto Joins Colleagues in Recognizing the Accomplishments and Vast Contributions of Immigrants to the United States

June 30, 2021

Washington, D.C. - The first and only Latina in the U.S. Senate,Senator Catherine Cortez Masto (D-Nev.) joined Senator Bob Menendez (D-N.J.) and Rep. Ritchie Torres (D-N.Y.-15) in introducing a bicameral resolution recognizing June 2021 as 'Immigrant Heritage Month,' a time to reflect on and celebrate the accomplishments and vast contributions immigrant communities have made to America's history, economy, and culture.

'For so many immigrants, America represents hope and opportunity. That hope inspired my grandfather, who came here to pursue the American Dream. His sacrifices paved the way for me to serve as the first Latina Senator. The Silver State is home to one of the largest immigrant populations nationwide, filled with hardworking Americans who share their cultures and heritage, take care of the sick, raise and educate young Nevadans, and so much more. I'm proud to recognize Immigrant Heritage to honor and celebrate the contributions of immigrants across our nation.'

The bicameral resolution celebrates the countless contributions by immigrants for a healthier, safer, more diverse, prosperous country, and acknowledges their importance to the future successes of America. It also recognizes immigrants who have spent more than a year putting their own lives on the line and that of their loved ones to save lives every day and keep our country going during the COVID-19 pandemic.
