Officer-Involved Shooting Investigation

The Oakland Police Department (OPD) is investigating a fatal officer-involved shooting (OIS) that occurred in the 1000 block of 16th Street.

On April 17, 2024, the Sacramento Police Department was in Oakland conducting a homicide investigation. Just before 9:30 p.m., Sacramento Police officers notified OPD of their investigation and requested assistance in arresting the homicide suspect.

​​​​​​​Oakland Police officers arrived on the scene, and as they began securing the area and requesting additional resources, the suspect emerged from the residence with a firearm.

OPD officers discharged their service weapons, fatally striking the suspect. Officers provided first aid until the medical personnel arrived. The suspect was pronounced deceased at the scene. No officers were physically injured.

In accordance with OPD policy, the officers have been placed on paid administrative leave.

This officer-involved shooting is being investigated by the Oakland Police Department's Homicide Section, Internal Affairs Division, and the Oakland Community Police Review Agency.
