Alabama Artists Gallery Presents a Survey of Textile Arts
New exhibition from Bib & Tucker Sew-Op showcases the transformative power of sewing
The exhibition entitled "10 Years of Bib & Tucker Sew-Op: A Visual Survey"explores a decade of creation from the members and students of the Sew-Op, including quilts from the March Quilts collection, "Recycled Runway" upcycled fashion pieces, quilt blocks, and more. It is currently on display at the Georgine Clarke Alabama Artists Gallery in downtown Montgomery.
Bib & Tucker Sew-Opis a nonprofit arts organization that teaches sewing skills through projects that give back to the community and promote empowerment, education, and economic opportunity.
Since its founding, the Council on the Arts has continuously supported Alabama's arts and culture sector through grantmaking, including organizations like Bib & Tucker Sew-Op. As arts organizations across the state continue to safely reopen and host in-person programming, the agency aims to highlight the importance of continued public funding for the arts.
Open House/Pop-Up Market @ Alabama Artists Gallery
Stop by the Georgine Clarke Alabama Artists Gallery on Saturday, November 20, from 10 a.m. until noon for an open house and pop-up market featuring handmade items, including pillowcases, market bags, face masks, stuffed toys, and specialty applique patterns. The following forms of payment will be accepted: Cash, check, Cash App, and Venmo.
Free Workshop/Sewing Session @ Alabama Department of Archives & History
Following the open house, join Bib & Tucker Sew-Op, in collaboration with the Council on the Arts, on Saturday, November 20 at 1 p.m. at the Alabama Department of Archives and History for "Mending Our Stories: Art Expression for Veterans and Their Families."
During this workshop, veteran spouse and Community Arts program manager Dr. Jacqueline Viskup will discuss different types of art projects veterans participate in to amend misconceptions, mend their own selves, and communicate with their communities. Sew-Op facilitators will help participants create quilt blocks that illustrate their unique experiences with military life. These blocks will join others made throughout 2022 and will become part of the March Quilts collection. All are welcome to attend - however, the focus will be on those who have a personal connection to military service, including extended family members and arts organizations working with the military community in and around Montgomery. "10 Years of Bib & Tucker Sew-Op" is on display at the Georgine Clarke Alabama Artists Gallery through January 5, 2022. Free and open to the public Monday - Friday from 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. Visit us on the first floor of the RSA Tower, located in downtown Montgomery at 201 Monroe Street, Suite 110.

About the Georgine Clarke Alabama Artists Gallery
The mission of the Georgine Clarke Alabama Artists Gallery is to promote the creative talents of Alabamians through exhibitions, publicity, and educational programs. However, most important to the exhibition schedule is the presentation (and celebration) of the fine work being done by Alabama's artists. The Alabama Artists Gallery was renamed in honor of Georgine Clarke following her death in 2012. Georgine served as Visual Arts Program Manager at the Council on the Arts for 17 years, and her influence on the work of the Council is still felt.
