The Spanish stock market trades 32.8 billion euros in June

MONTHLY TRADING STATEMENTS FOR BME'S MARKETS

  • The volume traded in Equities was up 1.5% in June and 11.8% in the first half of the year
  • Fixed Income issuance in June was up 61.6%
  • Trading in IBEX 35 index futures contracts to the end of June increased 14.3%

The Spanish stock market traded 32.8 billion euros in Equities in June, 1.5% more than in May and 6.7% less than in the same month the previous year. The amount recorded in the first half of the year grew by 11.8%. The number of trades in June was 3.3 million, down 4.6% from May and down 6.5% on the same month in 2021. The annual cumulative figure was down by 4.7%.

BME's market share in Spanish equities stood at 66.63%. The average spread in this month was 6.98 basis points at the first price level (2.1% better than the next trading venue) and 9.33 basis points with order book depth of 25,000 euros (27.1% better), according to an independent report by LiquidMetrix, available here: https://www.bmerv.es/ing/Miembros/MIFID_II.aspx. All figures include both transparent order book (LIT) trading - including auctions - and non-transparent (dark) off-book trading.

The volume traded in June in the Fixed Income markets reached 10.7 billion euros, 12.9% lower than in May. New issues, including Public Debt and Private Fixed Income issues, amounted to 39.7 billion euros, which implies a 61.6% increase compared to the same month the previous year.

The outstanding balance stood at 1.77 trillion euros, up 2.4% so far this year and up 3.2% compared to June 2021.

The Financial Derivatives market traded 2.9 million contracts in June for a notional amount of 40.4 billion euros. In the first six months of the year trading increased by 14.3% in IBEX 35 Futures and by 15.1% in Mini IBEX Futures. As regards equity contracts, there was a monthly increase of 1,190.3% in Futures trading and a 18.1% increase in Options trading due to the concentration of the open interest in the quarterly maturities and their roll over to the next maturity, that is, to that in the same quarter the following year or in the following quarter (Roll Over, Time Spread or Calendars transactions).

The open interest in Mini Ibex Futures contracts increased by 12.7% in June.
