FIBA Europe Coaching Certificate 7th edition concludes in Podgorica with 45 graduates

PODGORICA (Montenegro) - The curtain fell on the seventh edition of the FIBA Europe Coaching Certificate (FECC) on July 24 with a ceremony that saw 45 coaches graduate from the program.

FIBA Executive Director Europe Kamil Novak attended the official graduation ceremony in the capital of Montenegro, Podgorica, and presented the graduates with their certificates.

"We are extremely pleased to see the ongoing high interest in the FECC and the great commitment of the participating coaches. Many coaches of the FECC are involved in national team programs," Mr. Novak commented afterwards.

Gunnar Voigt Nesboe from Norway, Hanna Ballhaus from Germany, Vasil Hristov from Bulgaria and Pena Ranta from Finland were the four graduates who earned the 'best of the class' distinction.

The four coaches will be invited by FIBA Europe to the final stage of FIBA EuroBasket 2022 and will attend the EuroBasket coaching clinic that will take place in Berlin on September 10-11, under the auspices of the German Basketball Federation and FIBA Europe.

The FECC is structured around clinics and lectures held during the FIBA European Youth Championships. FIBA Basketball World Cup and FIBA EuroBasket winner Svetislav Pesic, who is a mentor of the project since its inception, was again on hand this year for the final part of this edition, that took place around the FIBA U20 European Championship.

The Serbian national team head coach was joined in Podgorica by two more renowned coaches who acted as lecturers, in Bayern Munich head coach Andrea Trinchieri and German national team head coach Gordon Herbert.

"I had a great impression of the FECC," commented coach Trinchieri. "I found a group of high-level coaches. I enjoyed every minute of my lectures and discussions, also because they were very interactive sessions."

The program offers a unique opportunity to up to 60 coaches to learn the secrets of their trade from some of the successful and highly respected tacticians in the world, while also expanding their knowledge of related disciplines with the help of sport experts who are authorities in their respective fields.

The FECC is not issuing a coaching license, but it represents an important step towards obtaining further certification. All participants in the program are nominated by their respective national federations and come from around Europe and beyond, as coaches from Lebanon, Japan and Puerto Rico also took part in this challenging edition.

The certification focuses on areas that are deemed as the most important for the identification and development of young talent, while offering graduates the opportunity to network with other coaches and complete a program that will increase their knowledge of basketball and assist them in unlocking employment opportunities.

The seventh edition started in 2019 and concluded three years later due to the exceptional circumstances caused by the pandemic, but the program normally runs for a total of two calendar years and includes three different appointments. The first stage takes place during the FIBA U16 European Championship, the second during the FIBA U18 European Championship and the final part during the FIBA U20 European Championship.

The second stage of the eighth edition will take place at the upcoming FIBA U18 European Championship that gets underway in Izmir, Turkey on July 30.
