Man charged following alleged assault, investigations continue - Dee Why

A man has been charged following investigations into an alleged 'one punch' assault at Dee Why on Monday (21 March 2017).

The incident occurred about 3.20pm on Monday 21 March 2017, when a 31-year-old man was allegedly assaulted by two men while waiting at a bus stop on the corner of Pittwater Road and Howard Avenue, Dee Why.

The 31-year-old was allegedly punched in the face by one man and then punched in the head by another, causing him to fall and hit his head on the concrete, fracturing his skull.

He was taken to Royal North Shore Hospital where he remains in a critical condition.

A crime scene was established and police from Northern Beaches Local Area Command commenced an investigation.

On Monday 20 March 2017, police attended a home on Pittwater Road, Dee Why, where they arrested a 19-year-old man.

He was taken to Manly Police Station where he assisted police with their inquiries and was released without charge.

About 8pm yesterday (Tuesday 21 March 2017), investigators attended at unit in Redfern Street, Redfern and executed a search warrant.

A 22-year-old man was arrested at the scene and taken to Redfern Police Station and charged with cause grievous bodily harm to person with intent.

He was refused bail to appear at Central Local Court today (Wednesday 22 March 2017).

Investigations are continuing.
