Winners of the Desertification Challenge

ESCWA marked the 2022 Desertification and Drought Day on 23 June, and announced the winners of the youth challenge on combating desertification and drought in the Arab region launched in April, in collaboration with several partners.

Three students from the Arab American University in Palestine won the challenge after proposing alternative methods to cutting trees.

An expert meeting was held earlier on to raise awareness among young people on the impact of desertification and drought on their lives and future, and to highlight the roles they can play in tackling these challenges. Participants also discussed ways to mobilize young people and actively engage them in addressing this issue at regional, national and subnational levels.
